Household dispute!
« on: August 03, 2015, 08:35:32 am »
Greetings All!

I recently landed on a Miami Beach Estate sale. My first time to an Estate Sale ever. I walked out with 10 sconces for which I paid $6 each. My wife said that the sconces are from the Garbage Period. I don't agree. Six of the sconces are made from copper but has modern wiring. The other 4 are huge and made out of metal and have some significant rust in some parts. However, they can easily be restored by replacing the damaged sections since they're attached to the sconce by only one screw. Let me add that the Estate it's been renovated and the Project Manager told me that the sconces are from the 1930's. I did some research and the ones I found online with a similar style were from the '30s.

Please help; I told her that if the sconces don't have any value I will wash her SUV every week for 6 weeks. She refuses to take any punishment if I find out that the sconces have some value. (Not Fair at all!) Help me shed some light to this dispute and allow me to keep my dignity intact.

Thank you in advance.

Frank

I think your dignity is safe !!  Close ups would help but the metalwork is similar to that era !!  They appear to be heavier than the styles of the 60`s and 70`s when some repro`s were made !!  I would not replace any of the parts,,didn`t see any rust and no matter if it is,, originality is key to the age !!  You will not get rich but they should bring around $20 each and possibly more for the copper ones !!

Hahahaha! Thank you so much Mart. That will definitely help my dignity. Yes, the small ones are copper and the big ones are heavy as they come. I paid $6 for each so I should be easily doubling my money and finding a good home for the sconces.

Thank you so much!

You might even get more than that!  People love that ages copper look and pay big bucks to "fake" patina items to look like that!

These could be reused as lights or upcycled for tea lights, candles, etc for a garden, home....
