English oak tallboy identification?
« on: December 11, 2015, 04:18:43 am »
Hi all,

My friend also has this oak tallboy, purchased in England that we would love to know more about. Can anybody help identify the time period, where I might find a maker's mark, value and whether all 4 sides of the drawer are oak?

Many thanks and warmest regards,

Chloe

Can you take a pic of the dovetail joints on the side one of the drawers please ??  Is there a question about the wood the chest is made with ?? It is oak in your pics !! Chances are the back is a secondary wood and not oak but the case looks to be all oak !!

Everything in your photos is oak. The date looks to be ca. 1900-1915.

Furniture is rarely marked !!  Occasionally you will find numbers stamped on the back indicating a mfrs style number but even that didn`t start till around 1930 here in the U.S. !!
