Could this be The Literary and Debating Society?  I found this bit of history about this society from college in Ireland.  See if this helps your searching.

I should have been born in another era!

Hi Radorado,
Can you describe the lettering and the silver hallmarks?  I can't make out the 3 letters on the top front.  On the back whom does it say the donor is, can you tell what the hallmark symbols are, and are the letters under the hallmark M & B ?
Interesting there are many "Ignatius Leong" Most of them are of Asian descent, particularly Hong Kong or Malaysia.

Looks like:

DONOR
DR S. C. Lip

Sure looks like M&B to me as well.

This most likely was made by Marples & Beasley, 1906 - 1928. They were renowned Jewellers & medallists, Albion Street then later South Road c1945, Birmingham!

If you search Marples and Beasley medals, medallions you will find that there are quite a few out there AND that they generally hold value!!  👏 Clapping happily!

i cant make out the first of the hall marks but if birmingham it will be an anchor, the second is the lion passant meaning its sterling silver the next is the date letter x which for birmingham would be 1947, so it ties fairly well with the date on the front.

You should google Dr Lip Seng Chiew. Quite an interesting person and he was the " donor " of the award.

SMI is the St Michaels Institution in Ipoh
