Yes Mart, what looks like a drawer opens down.  There are cubbies and on either side of the cubbies are little drawers.  The wood is a blondish color on the little drawer fronts.
I should have been born in another era!

Thought it would !! Butlers desk !! I would change those 20`s/30`s pulls for period correct ones !!

Both are very nice from what I can see !! Just enjoy all the little dings it has and do not try to erase its age !!
