https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=torchiere+table+lamp

Not sure but I think that is not the original globe and I think the metal part right below that has been replaced !! The original shade looks like it should have been a torchiere type !!  Similar to those in the link !!  That metal part looks like any you would find on table lamps here !! Something tells me the original shade got broken and the globe shade that is on it now wouldn`t fit without changing that metal part too !!  Stand looks like it may be bronze !!
Whats on it now looks like it may have come from a ceiling fan !!  Doesn`t go with the stand at all !!  Could be wrong but that's the way it looks to me !!
Is that the electrical cord that is white behind it ??  If so that has been replaced too !! Cord would have been dark brown !!  Poor taste to use a white cord on a dark metal lamp !! The cord should be unobtrusive and blend in with the lamp and the background !! White is ok on a porcelain with a lot of white in the pattern !!

That's very sweet of you !!  I would not say anything about the shade or anything else if she likes it as it is !! Keep your mother happy you know !!
