Oriental Stick
« on: July 04, 2016, 07:52:24 pm »
I would like to know what this stick  is for.
It is a straight carved  stick. I am guessing it is resin and guessing -
Oriental because of the symbol on the front bottom.
The back is flat. The carved front has turtles, horse, deer, a lizard, cranes, palm trees and leaves. It is 10 and 1/4 inches long by 3/4 of an inch thick.
Ir weighs 1/2 pound. Pictures may be dark looking because the stick is black.
If it is resin, why is resin used all? It  seems like such a lesser medium to use...
It was in a box with several Chinese Foo Dogs.
Thanks for your help!

Not sure if this is the same thing but I have seen pics of Chinese or Japanese men with a similar stick in their waistband !!  Do not know what its use is !!  I thought just a fashion accessory showing status !!

Mart it could be a "modern reproduction" of the weapon worn in the wasteband.  With it being resin and not wood I would say a modern reproduction no matter what the use.

With Cosplay being so popular these days with Samurai/Odori and all the versions there of it is highly likely.
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Oh I agree on the modern !!  Don`t think resin was used  for anything other than repro`s and souvenirs !!
