Cigarette box??? please help identify
« on: April 30, 2017, 01:36:35 pm »
Found this box at a local goodwill and thought it was curious. Does anyone have info on it? The photo on top is under glass and the dimensions are 3.5"x5"x1.125"
Thanks for the help

Looks like a gothic tower in the middle distance on the bottom photo, so I'd hazard to guess....England?

Levens Hall gardens. The following view was taken just to the right of the one on the box

Different countries have different size packs.  Average sizing for cigarette packs is  3.5" high 2 and 1/8 wide 7/8" thick.

Could be used for anything.

Second picture appears to have material/leather/fabric wrapped over the lip (see top of inside.)

The third pic is of the box upside down to show the texture of the green cloth its wrapped in and the black leather bottom. I think the box is made of thin wood and covered in the green cloth.
So if it is a cigarette box, aprox what decade would it have been used?
Thanks for all the help and info

Have you tried to see if a cigarette fits  in it !!  They may not have had a filter back then !!   Ladies didn`t normally carry a pack of cigarettes  !!  She would have 4 or 5 in a similar box as yours !!  Smoking was more of  a social event !!  I would guess maybe 30`s or 40`s for your box !!
