Duncon Phyfe style table
« on: November 13, 2017, 04:08:04 pm »
I just got a Duncon Phyfe style table. Can anyone tell me what to look for to help determine a guesstimate on the age?

Here is a picture. It is a drop leaf. I also have another leaf that is in the table.

I just got the table for $35 including the delivery of it. I have looked to see if I could find a site that might give me an idea of what to look for for the time period.

Pelady is correct !!  Late 30`s to 1950 !!  Yours is identical to the dining set I had years ago !!  I also had the drum coffee table and end tables and the game table with mirror !!  The game table was the lyre style  but still same time period !!  You got a good deal on it !!  They were made by several mfrs so a closer date is not possible !! They were pretty common back then !!

Okay, I was hoping that there would have been some changes in the hard wear or supports for the drop leaves.

Only way there would be changes to the hardware would be if the mfr changed !!  The hardware was bought in bulk by the furniture companies and several furniture companies could have bought from the same supplier !!  The companies that made the furniture did not make the hardware too !!

Wow !!  Just looked at Pelady`s links !!  Some of those people are nuts !!  Over 5K for  a table you can buy at garage sales around here !!  Of course the seller only has 52 feedback with only 90% positive rating !!  Thats going downhill fast !!

Mart, remember...location, location, location.  That drives pricing.  And who owned it previously can demand a higher price.  For example...Mart, yours would sell for more just because you owned it!  :)

Ha !!  Tell me another good one KC !!  I had my living room and dining room in Duncan Phyfe many moons ago !!  Had  another in the process of refinishing after it had been dip stripped !!  It was the Lyre style chairs and had brass strings rather than the wood !!  Haven`t seen another one like that !!  The man I bought it from owned the company that bought all the English antiques by the container full !!  No telling where it came from !!
