Odd Cambridge dish,, what is it for ??

KC, Cogar Ghopper , Rauville !!  I know some of you will know  what this dish is used for ??  I sure do not !!  !4.5 in X 91/2 I think!!

Mart, my first impression was a divided asparagus dish with a slight indention for sauce.

Then, it could be a relish tray or strawberry dish...or bread tray!  Then a little nagging voice in my head says could even be a vanity tray!

Mart, it is a 15" serving platter ....... but is missing the "bell" shaped container, lid and "glass" serving spoon that sits in the oval depression on the side of the platter.

 It is pictured in Gene Florence's .... revised 2nd edition of .... Elegant Glassware of the Depression Era ...... on page 47.

Thanks Cogar !!  I found the dish but it did not have a lid !!  They did say that it was  an asparagus or celery server !!

Mart, the platter doesn't have a lid, ..... the condiment bowl that sits on the edge of the platter has the lid ....... and a spoon for dipping "out" the condiment contents.

PS, with the deep "ridges" in the platter bottom. .... maybe for "serving" cooked asparagus, .... but surely not for "serving" cooked celery.

Well I was  assuming raw celery sticks with a dipping sauce but you know what they say about anyone that "assumes" something !!     That may be me !!

HA, I've never tried a spooned "dipping" sauce on raw celery ...... but I shur luv peanut butter spread in the "groove".

And "Yes", ..... a "veggie" dip in a bowl for plunging items (celery, radishes, cauliflower, carrots, etc.) off your veggie tray into.

Another good idea !!  I usually have pimiento cheese in the fridge but can add the peppers !!  Jalapeno are not as good as my cayenne peppers to me !!

and order up a batch of "Skillet-Braised Celery with Dijon Sauce".

Rauville I have NEVER heard of that before.  Googled it and found all kinds of recipes.  Going to try it!
