« on: November 12, 2018, 11:15:17 am »
One off my long time collected ceramics . Would like to hear your idea's about it's origin and age . Size 35 width and 5 cm height . I think it could be by a Dutch maker from Haarlem from around the 17th century ?  :DSo help needed

My question  is, when did they first start making decorative plates with holes in rim of the base (underside) so that they could be hung on a peg or nail for display?

On the Delftware plates starting in the 16th century the holes are already made to hang the plates to show . So early enough for my plate I think  :)  The photo is a 17th century Dutch plate made in Haarlem

It appears your plate is neither characteristic of Gaudy Welsh or Gaudy Dutch, so I don’t have a clue what its origin is.

Here, I enlarged it some more.

And Mart, there are nine (9) digits in that mark or number.

 A round circle (like a copyright mark), … a small mark ,,… larger mark …. then 4 marks …. then a dash or minus sign ….. then the last mark.

To wit, like so, …..   @ * &  &8&& - 1

I think this is a written number made later then the plate . Probaly made with a felt tip and a inventory number maybe from the owner ?
