Or its been over painted ect !!
Yes, much of the chest has been overpainted / inpainted but as an old furniture person that doesn't bother me as much as say a Folk Art person, i am more interested that it was built in the Bieber shop. Yes, Tom is great great great grandson, 9th or 10th generation.
Besides, once folk art people get involved, I CAN'T AFFORD it! they do same thing i hear with duck/bird collectors, drive prices thru the roof!
I would add that the feet are probably replaced to as they are with most Bieber chests, those high bracket feet on almost all Bieber chests just didn't make it into a 3rd century.
Congratulations on the win. I like it!
Thanks! I like it to and, it's pretty much all there except the lock & feet. Arranging shipping now, can't wait to examine it. I could always have the overpaint removed but i doubt i will do that just because "folk art" people don't approve. Have been looking into paint restorers/conservator's though, i will probably have them at least take a look see.
Besides, it is very possible that inpainting was done by a member of the Bieber clan and if that is the case, no way would i remove it. The owner of this chest was/is a grandson of Mary Bieber.
