Waggon wheel or water wheel hub help
« on: December 23, 2021, 03:01:36 pm »
I brought home this unique piece but can't find any information on it. I have a food feeling it's a wheel hub but absolutely no idea from what because the design is so different.

It stands 3 feet high (or long if in use)
Is tapered at both ends like an hour glass (odd part)
10 inch diameter in the middle of the spokes
16 spokes with 4 inch long spoke holes

Any help identifying this piece is appreciated

Where did you get it from or know of area it came from?

Reminds me of a real old mill water wheel hub.

The openings in the center look to be different sizes !  My original thought was a part from a loom of some sort !

I traced it back to a sale in Kansas City Mo. But by then it was already the art piece you see with base so it could have come from anywhere.

My first thought was a water wheel too. But I can't find any drawings 9r information to would support the length of the ends. The taper looks as thos the entire hub sat in a yoke or wooden bracket on either side of the spokes which would make more sense that the hub sat on top of a yoke rather than a yoke sitting on the hub from above. I'm still at a loss.

The more I look at it = looks like an antique wagon wheel hub!  Seen a few over the years here in Texas - this one is in great shape!  The bands are missing that would be strapped around both sides of the slots!
