Virginia House markings...
« on: December 30, 2005, 01:01:21 pm »
Hi

I have aquired a rocking chair from an eldery lady who told me that it was an antique.  Underneath the chair there are some markings.  It was made by Virginia House and the markings are:

Virgina House 1008-09  1174

I think it might be fairly old as there are no nails or screws in it, everything is connected with wood joints.  Does anyone know what these markings mean or how I can get some idea of the value of this rocking chair?  I think this chair is at least over 80 years old.  Right now I would like to sell this piece as I live in a very small apartment and I don't have any room for it.

Thanks for any help.

Sounds as if they have been around quite a while. You can read this article:

then write or email them directly. Hopefully someone will enlighten you better than I.

I guess I could add.......the numbers probably denote style to the maker. An 80 year old rocker in good condition could retail for $150-$250. I'm just guessing without photos here.
