Antique Platter
« on: January 10, 2006, 07:36:41 pm »
I have inherited an ornate antique (i think its antique) wall hanging platter with an interesting painting on it. The painting is of some sort of fortress on the water with a ship docked and people emerging up some steps to a castle looking structure... could be a lighthouse, I'm not sure.  There are other sails on the water, as well.

The platter was made in Italy and is signed M. Comari.  I can't seem to find anything on this particular artist and was curious to learn more about origins of the family heirloom.

I should also mention that it has a number marketing on the back of 1591 which looks like it was written by the artist, as the handwriting and ink look the same.

Anyone know anything about this artist or know where I might be able to learn more.

Thanks a lot!

Regards,
Laurie
