Looking closer at that side panel, the verticle grooves, it appears to be made of 6 boards. If so, that makes me skeptical that it was American made pre 1900. They were cutting bigggggg trees back then .... and thus the end shouldn't be more than 2 boards at most. Sixteen (16) to 20" wide boards were quite common back then.
I can't even guess from the picture what type of wood it is. The lack of grain suggests it might be maple or maybe even persimmon, that is if it is American made. Just guessing though.
