Steamer trunks
« on: August 05, 2006, 12:22:54 am »
We are in the process of sorting out great grandma's barn and have the truck loaded up with several big steamer trunks, most smelling pretty musty, but have great ambiance and look to be very old.  Any worth in these?  One place told me they'd be interested if they were made of wood and could be used as a coffee table.  But these are not wood.  Several are metal with straps and a few have curved tops.

These read as though they are later than the wood/metal trucks of the 1880's which do have more value. Your all metal trucks could date to 1900-1930. Size and condition are important. The very large ones are hard to sell as they are difficult to fit into today's decor except for storage. The smaller ones even though they are all metal are still used to decorate with. They just aren't valued as high as the older trucks. Yours perhaps, $10-$40 depending on size/condition.
