sieve with swastika logo
« on: April 15, 2012, 07:43:55 pm »
I came across what I believe is a sieve of some sort with a logo of a swastika with the word/letter DLVER, the letter D, and triagles at the end of each arm of the swastika.  I know the symbol has been used before and since the nazi party adopted it but Im not sure where to start with this piece in trying to find out where it came from.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have been searching google patents by date but I am having a hard time finding this one. They changed their search options and it's all funky now. If someone knows exactly what this is called, maybe I'll have better luck! :)
Welcome to the forum, by the way!

What you have there is a "potato ricer" or food mill, not a sieve.

It would be a great kitchen collectible for collectors of Nazi items.

Since the patent date is 1908, it predates Nazism! I will go look through the patents again, thanks cogar!

The "I" on yours is faded but it was made by the Dilver Manufacturing Company. I can't find any info about them, just a few references when I search on yahoo for "dilver swastika." Are there any better detectives than I at finding company info/dates?

Thank you.  I started with searching google also and had zero luck.  I agree that their new format is a bit tricky to navigate.

I too was unable to get it to come up on a patent search. However since the month abbreviations appear to be English, since the month of March would have an omlaut (two little dots) over the letter A if it were German. I think that helps to narrow it down.

Dilver Manufacturing Co. is out of Pittsburgh....that's the most I've found.  :P  Darn google's 'silver' suggestion was driving me crazy.

Prior to the Nazi usurpation of the symbol, it was, variously, a form of the Christian cross among the eastern orthodox communities and a good luck symbol in Hinduism.

It is a good idea to use the swastika in your logo. It's a symbol of good luck and also of luck in everything you do. The swastika is also used as a symbol for peace, so it's a good way to make your brand stand out from other companies. I know that some people may be opposed to this logo because they are against Hitler, but I'm still going to support this logo because I believe that there are many reasons why the swastika is a good choice for your company name.

I think the sieve with the swastika logo is a very interesting design. I have never seen something like this before. It is very creative and different from other designs. Go to this https://masterbundles.com/graphics/textures/ site for best graphics textures. The swastika reminds me of Asian cultures and how they use it as a symbol of good luck and good fortune. The sieve reminds me of how simple life can be when you are living in a rural area where there are no distractions or unnecessary things in life.
