ornately carved antique chair - please help
« on: January 02, 2008, 04:49:35 pm »
Hello! We just bough and intriguing chair, looks very old but were told it is a 1930's/40's reproduction of a 1700's style. It is a darkly stained oak, with embossed black leather seat and back (hammock style like a directors chair). The arms and legs are all hand carved culminating in two ornate faces on the top of the chair backs. They look like they have "elf" ears, one with its mouth open and one with its mouth shut. It is a little menacing, but so intereSting, almost looks like a traveling medieval throne! We paid $550-. Any insight into its style or history? Would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Kristen
