Japanese dishes -- HELP!
« on: July 06, 2008, 05:50:18 pm »
Hello. =]
My parents picked up a set of Japanese ceramic dishes at a local antique store a while back. I have had them boxed up for safe keeping, and didn't think to get them out and try to identify them until now.

 I have taken pictures of only two of the items (there are some twenty different items in the set).

The first I would like to have identified is a shallow dish with a leaf like shape. The dish appears to be handpainted, and features six women in elegant kimonos, all of which have traditional geisha hair styles. One lady is carrying a parasol style umbrella. The background features many traditional Japanese buildings, flowers, and cherry blossoms. There is a fine raised detail around the border of the dish, as well as within the image - little white dots within the windows, plants, etc. The dish is trimmed in gold, and has gold detail in the entire image.

 The back is marked "JAPAN" in red ink.

The next item is a small cup, perhaps a sake cup. It features two geisha and an assortment of flowers :

The bottom is unmarked.

If you would like more photos, measurements, etc. please let me know!
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for looking!
