Hello all and Old Pottery from Austria
« on: October 24, 2010, 09:07:44 pm »
Hello.
Tony here in Southern Oklahoma...
I am looking for info as in origin, well... just about anything that i can find out on a vase or what ever it would be called.  A vase that is about a foot and half tall or so. It is smooth on the inside and fairly good size opening at top. I have no clue the language of the lettering that is on it so that would be a great start.

Here is a link to several pictures of this vase that has been in the family forever.  If you have any info you can send e mail at k7iss at k7iss dot info
This is my ham radio page and the pictures are on their own page.

You can email me directly or from the page or just post on here if you have any idea or at least what to actually call it.

Thanks
Tony

Russian/Slavic Alphabet, Cyrillic,  is artistic flair....words are in Russian. Means Shamahanska Queen or Snow Queen -or our modern day Snow White.

The Black Dragon on the other side is from Russian Folk Lore aka Volkh
here was also a single person/entity known as Volkh in Russian folklore. This rout is most likely since it has been said that he was the forefather of the Volkh in some way, thoug I have not been able to find any references to HOW exactly:

'...comes from the Kiev legend of Volkh Vseslavyevich, the shape-shifting magician, who (according to Nederlander) was sired by one of the last and tempestuous descendants of the house of the Ureus Naga. "Son of the Serpent" is a name frequently given to Lord Volkh in "The Tears of Artamon" and the heraldic badge of the Drakhaons of Azhkendir is a black winged serpent and "The Volkh is a shape-shifting guardian of Kiev. It may take the appearance of an animal or insect, and it possesses magical powers"     http://www.russievirtuelle.com/mythologie/dieux/zognvolkh.htm

Possible pottery maker (you have an AMPHORA crown) but something doesn't sit well.....with the other markings!  There is only one initial - S.  The crown mark used at this time had
