Eastern metallic sculpture?
« on: March 22, 2009, 04:32:32 pm »
Please excuse any blunders, etc, this is my first post, and my first time inquiring about an antique. I went to a white elephant party the other night, and this is what I came home with. The theme of the party was bad gifts, but I really like this little guy/gal, and it goes well with the decor in my home. I do not know anything about the person who brought this sculpture to the party, or anything about the sculpture itself, other than it was purchased at an antique store. The core of the sculpture is some kind of red rock, I know this from a chip on the bottom of it. The outside of the sculpture is some kind of metal. There are scratches and divets all over, it is worn in some places, tarnished in others, which in my very unexperienced eye suggests that is is very old, and was possibly dug up. Does anyone know the orgin of this or the name of the figure? I was not able to locate any similar characters or poses, I was thinking it was a sculpture of a hindu deity, but wasn't able to find anything. Also, there is absolutely nothing like a manufacturers mark or date, nothing like that on it. I would really like some guidance, or a website that I could go to to learn more about this figure\character. Here's a link to the photo...    http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt57/kt0031/img_1680.jpg
Thank you!
