Should I have it appraised and where to sell it?
« on: March 13, 2009, 06:35:06 pm »
Hello everyone, I'm new here so please be gentle!  :D

I just purchased a house and the basement has a bar in it. I want to get rid of one of the pieces back there, but a few people have told me that I should get it appraised and sell it but I'm not sure if it's worth getting appraised or where would be a good place to sell it.

I have, what looks like, a 50's or 60's era soda fountain machine. It has the 2 selzer taps, 4 syrup pumps (marked cola, root beer, etc.) and 2 topping canisters that have the long scoops in them. It has a stamping on the front that says "Foremost Fountains, Inc. New York, NY" on it.

There is also what looks to be an Ice Cream cooler that goes with it...that has a stamping on the front that says "Frigidare, made by General Motors" or something like that on it.

As I said, I'm not sure if it's something that I could get any worth while money for or where the best place to sell it would be, but this would be the best place to ask!!!  ???

Thanks for the help!!!

I tried to post some pics, but they aren't showing. I'll try it again.

Why in the world would you want to get rid of this?  This is so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o neat!  If I had it you couldn't pry my fingers off of it!!!!

This company was in business in New York in 1951   at 527 Casanova Street, NY 57 NY.  I can't find much more than that...but am willing to bet it was a part of Foremost Dairies that produced all your milk products and lets not forget the spectacular ice cream!!!!!  I do believe you have a real piece of history...nostalgia ....

Do you have the fountain (bar) too?  That is a very cool item.

This is pretty much it. I'm thinking that I'm going to refurbish it a bit (not fully) then see about selling it somewhere. I would love to keep it but I need some room for a bar fridge in the spot this is in. I also have an old ice cream freezer with it that needs quite a bit of cleaning and repair to the motor as well as the outer shell has been painted. It'll be a nice project to retore it all.

Is this pretty much a top insert for a cabinet or does it have a front as well?  Size?  Condition?

It has the full box underneath. Still has all of the hookups for the soda tap. It is in need of a very good cleaning and I believe the previous owner of it painted it to match the rest of the bar area, so I'm going to have to get the paint removed. It seems in pretty good condition, just needs a little love. It's about 4ft wide by 3ft deep and 4ft high...I'm at work right now so I can't get exact measurements.

Is the 'full box underneath' stainless steel or wood?  If the box is wood, does it appear part of the item from the factory or someone's handywork?  I would think someone starting up a small soda/ice cream business in a mall, plaza or stand alone would jump at your item if it's in working condition.  It's probably a bit too new for the drugstore soda fountain vintage/antique fanatics but I could be wrong.  Can you post a picture(s) of the box and the interior of the box?

Hey Railman44, I will post pics this evening. I believe the box is stainless, but I could be wrong. I will have more information tonight.

Thanks for the help!

Ok, the front, top and back are stainless. The sides appear to be steel. The inside is also stainless...don't know if this helps.
