A Flying Elephant What’sit
« on: May 22, 2009, 01:25:11 pm »
Now I believe this has been hand-carved out of a piece of bakelite plastic. One can see the carving marks on the bottom, back and hind legs. It is quite heavy for no bigger than it is. The eye appears to me to be a piece of metal inserted in the plastic and polished almost flush.

It is 3 ¾”  long, 1 3/8” high and ¾” wide.

It has a “wing” for a door on its left side. Photo #1.

The “wing” door opens to reveal a storage cavity. Photo #2

On the right side, Photo #3, from the neck back, is a different piece of plastic, maybe 1/8” thick, that has been glued in place.

It has a cord that appears to be for placing over one’s head and around their neck. The two ends of the cord is inserted one in a hole at the top behind the head and the other end in a hole below the neck (photo #1) and they are knotted together on the inside of the body cavity.

I know nothing else about this object but am hoping someone else might.
