Antique egg cups
« on: September 08, 2009, 04:42:18 am »
Hi. First post and need some help... sorry there are no pictures at the moment but my camera is broken, so I'll do my best to describe things.

I need some idea of valuations for the following. They were given to me to eBay, but I'd rather sell privately than waste time on eBay and some of these items are quite rare, I think. I've been researching as much as I can but have hit a brick wall when it comes to patterns and values, so I hope someone can help. Here goes -

1. Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee egg cup by William Lowe, dated 1897
2. Grimwade Atlas China willow pattern egg cup
3. George VI Coronation egg cup. I have no idea of the maker, but the cup is a darkish ivory colour.
4. Burleigh 1930. The pattern has a green leaf with gold circle between the leaves, the rim of the cup is a broken black line, like a series of dashes.
5. Alfred Meakin willow pattern from 1930
6. Minton blue and white circa 1891-1912 (Mintons England mark) this cup has a blue rim with a sort of garland hanging down, like a Xmas decoration.
7. Royal Cauldon old style dragon with scalloped rim (no gold)
8. Henri Quimper Japanese figures marked on the bottom with what looks like F761
9. Henri Quimper flowers with a figure of a woman. Marked PE361 on the bottom
10. Edward VII egg cup. No idea of the maker, it is a light pink colour with a white area which holds the portrait of the King.
11. Spode Italian ware willow pattern
12. Delft (de Pauw) flowered pattern circa 1950s. Even the factory couldn't give me a date.
13. Wedgwood Royal Homes of London, Tower of London, circa 1960
14. Masons Regency Plantation Colonial pattern from approx 1930

There are loads more. I'll try my best to get photos later this week.

EDIT - I would love to reply to this message from Wendy, but I have no reply button and no way to switch on replies, so I'm having to edit this message. Possibly the dumbest forum layout I have ever seen. Thanks for your help, Wendy, it looks like I'll be having to take a trip to London to trawl around the antique shops. No point trying to post photos when there's no reply button on the forum!

Well artwerx you have a very difficult task ahead of you!! Egg cup collectors are a very specialized group they are called pocillovists (hard little collectors to track down lol). I have found a group through yahoo that may be of some help also http:/groups.yahoo.com/pocillovists_corner/ I do have some price guides  and info.on egg cups but I'm sure they do not contain all you have  as you seem to have so many but will try to help. photos will be needed. I could really help if you have any made by Shelley If so please post those first as I do have lots of info. I do not know of many price guides for egg cup collectors Brenda C. Blake has the best one in my opinion and her latest was published in 2000.  This will take some time as each cup is made by a diffrent company & some companies names have changed in the course of the life of said company.   At quick glance your #5 Alfred Meakin willow p will run around $20.00 (one down) Maybe someone else here can be of more help.
look forward to your photos.
