Hosman, if you decide to refinish it, you might try a heat-gun and a wire brush on the "end-grain" of the door/draw edges to get the majority of that paint off. That will work better sometimes than paint remover and they are non-visible surfaces so you don't have to worry about scratching it. The paint seeps into the endgrain and sometimes one has to apply a really dark stain to camoflague it.
