baby crib
« on: January 07, 2010, 08:26:47 am »
Here is a crib we bought at a rummage sale for 15.00. Not sure how old it is (?) It's in really nice condition and my son actually uses it currently. It may not even be that old, but in any event it serves it's purpose and I think it's really pretty and different. It measures about 53 1/2 inches long by 30 inches wide. I have not seen any labels or markings on it at all- but it's possible I've missed them when putting it together.

Seems to be from around 1950 - 70's.

It look's to be 1950's. BUT ! we have too be carefull buying these older crib's for a baby's use because sometimes the rails are a wee bit wider. there fore allowing a babys head to be caught.

A stander measure is. if a and average size coke bottle will fit thru the rails it's DANGEROUS ! if not. all righty then. :)

I was just about to post the same thing. The standard for crib bar spacing is 2-3/8".

I would ditch that crib immediately. You also don't know if the finish on it is child safe.

That is why I figured that time era due to the spacing of bars.  If you have big-headed kids it wouldn't be a problem...but not worth taking a chance!

It does make one wonder how so many of us survived the crib , don't it (not the whippersnappers here , though ...) ?

Thanks! I kind of figured it wasn't too old, but still neat. Yeah, I'm aware of the crib spacing between the bars. There isn't too much of a difference between the spacing in this crib and my older sons crib. At least not enough to make me worry. The child that sleeps in it now is 15 months old and believe me there is no possible way of his head getting stuck. We actually were blessed with big headed boys. haha. (KC) Either way, we won't be using it much longer b/c the side rail doesn't pull up too far and I'm sure it will be any day now that my son will start to pull up and stand in his crib (thanks for the reminder :)
