J C Higgins was the brand of bat sold by Sear & Roebuck & Co from 1908-1961. Interestingly enough, the bats were made by Hillerich & Bradsby Co but had to be made/sold under the JCHiggins name at Sears. J Higgins was the Bookkeeping Manager of Sears/Main Office and an avid sports enthusiast and the line was named after him - because he didn't have a middle name they added the initial C.
Also, Western bat company made bats for Sears under the same name during this time.
1741 Was the bat for Joe DiMaggio from what I have found.
