New antiques #4
« on: February 14, 2010, 05:39:41 pm »
Hello all,

I am new to this forum and had a few questions. My mother recently died and among a few of her belongings there were some things that no one knew the history or purpose of. I took quite a few pictures (there are four pieces) and I was hoping you guys could take a look and tell me more about them.

Finally there is a knife set that I think was brought back from Thailand by my father. Both are "gold".

Thanks once again, and happy valentines day!

I just realized "new antiques" is kind of an oxymoron :P

This is a really nice set of brass thailand serving set.  These became really popular amonst the soldiers of the Korean and Vietnam war, when many was sent back as souviners, and gifts.  I have seen a fair share of these and have a few myself, but not like these.  Most like mine are very abundant and cheap and easy to gather a set.  Yours appears to have a white painted embellishment on it, are the handles Hollow or are they solid?

Thanks for the reply! These two are not hollow, and are actually quite heavy. Any idea on the value?

Thanks again for all your help!

As for value, the typical brass thailand serving set would get in the $20.00 range, maybe $15.00 on Ebay on a good day.  Yours being a bit different I would say you may be able to get $30 to $40 for the set. Ebay $25.00.
