Seattle Post Intelligencer archive book
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:15:24 pm »
A friend's mom recently acquired a book that I'm trying to find some information on.

It's a great big, black, leather bound book holding every newspaper from the Seattle Post Intelligencer from Nov.-Dec. of 1923. There is no markings anywhere on the cover, except for on the spine it says " Seattle P.I. Bull Dog Edition Nov.-Dec. 1923"

It appears to be every actual newspaper from those dates, right down to classifieds and comics.

We have tried searching online extensively, but have found zero information. It looks like it could be some sort of old library archive or something, but that's just a guess.

Anyone have any ideas what we are looking at? Where we could find out any further information on it?

Thanks a bunch,  Nick

Many of the local newspapers in my local area bound their copies monthly/yearly and after a period of time donated them to the local libraries.  I used many of the bound copies for research years ago before the internet existed and everything became scanned.

Try getting in touch with someone at the seattle times, since the post has been discontiued.  It was just a few months ago the post was ended, I remember everyone rushing to get their last copy of it. For years the Post was the Morning paper, and the Times the evening paper.

Perhaps these were from the papers' own offices .

They off-loaded a whole bunch of stuff , after the print edition of the paper went the way of the wind .

The "Bulldog Edition" you've mentioned refers to an early edition (in the press cycle) of the morning paper ; the 'bulldog edition' is/was often sold the night before the actual date on the newspaper .

Frequently , these 'bulldog editions' were printed for out o' town paper-sellers/distributers (it took awhile for them to get 'there') .
