Noritake Find with Patent Question
« on: April 19, 2010, 09:40:07 am »
I have come across a Noritake Tea Cup, since Noritake came up in a earlier thread, thought I would share my findings on this cup, with question about Patent Numbers.   This Tea Cup is a Noritake, pattern name Goldier.  Found it at replacements, which it listed it at almost $35.00, usually My cup valued between 9.00 to 15.00 at replacement.  I thought this was pretty good for just a semi - Fancy Cup.  This cup was made in 1933 according to replacements, but the patent number 89494 would place it in the mid 1800's or so.  Am I missing something here? or maybe the design patent was made in the mid 1800's and was not produced until 1930's.  Or could it be they used the patent from another company?  Thought I would share my Noritake find since my apprication for Noritake just took a jump lately.

Ironlord, your plate has a "Design Patent" and that is different than a "patent".
Patent number: D89494
Filing date: Nov 26, 1932
Issue date: Mar 21, 1933
http://www.google.com/patents?q=design%20patent%2089494&btnG=Search%20Patents&as_psrg=1  Go down to about the third listing that says "Plate or similar article" and click on that.  That is the design patent for your plate I believe.

For future reference if you go to Google, use the top blue menu and got to 'more' with a down arrow, expand that and go to 'even more', expand that and choose the 'Patent Search' icon with the light bulb.

Thanks Wayward, that cleared my head a bit  ;D.  Thanks for the patent insight, thought something just did not add up.   Yea that sure is the patent for that plate.

I was going to say I don't believe Noritake was making teacups in the early 1800's.
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!
