Hello folks, I'm new to Antique-shop forums. I'm English but living in France and have recently picked up a piece of Lalique glass. 15cm high rams head, non coloured. The signature (Lalique France) is engraved in typical French style script. Does anyone specialize in Lalique or indeed has anyone seen another similar piece?

Thanks.
Goldengirl.

Ps. Your forum is great.

I have seen horses heads, they seem to be quite common. I have even seen a ram, but a rams head, never. I understand that the earlier pieces were signed René Lalique and the later ones simply Lalique. I suspect that this one is around 1940/50's. Being 15cms tall I would say it shoiuld be classified as a a figure or at limits a paperweight.

I've seen crystal lalique ram head called mascots - they can be very expensive.  I also don't know how to tranlate cm to inches.

Well I have searched numerous sites but my rams head seems to be one of its kind. There is a similar one but mine is less ornate and more 50's in style. Also, mine is bigger. Come to think of it, far too big to be a paper weight.

Click on the link for photo.

Yes, I see what you mean.  Your's has a different face.  Maybe it is not a "ram".  Aren't rams the males?  Your piece looks more feminine, with a prettier face.  Aren't they called ewes?

My best suggestion, a good antique store/mall has books on Lalique.  Some libraries also.  I would ask the mall manager to help you find the item in the book, and if it is in there, then go ahead and buy the book.

I hope it is a Lalique.  Keep us informed.   KB

Thanks, you could be right. I'm afraid my animal recognition is not too good unless it is dog, cat or horse. I thought it looked a bit Eqyptian.

We are a bit short on shopping malls here  in the Charente Maritime but I will try Amazon.
