We thought it was maybe a mourning brooch? Or would it just be a decorative piece?

I think it's a mourning brooch. Usually when black Jet glass is used it's a mourning brooch. Where is the photo located? I can't see any photo. If it has a photo it's definitely mourning. They are very collectible. If you check eBay I'm sure there are many.

I just believe it is a decorative piece.  No photo or lockets of hair for mourning piece.  That said, you don't always have to have it...but this is a classy piece.

Agree on the date above!

Thanks for the additional photos!!

Thank you to you all for your replies! :)

I love it, so dont mind if it is a mourning brooch, I always like to know the history of things though :)

We have a lovely new teacup to, so could be back!
