My antique microscope

After seeing Lemin’s post of his microscope, I called a friend up and told him I was ready to buy the microscope he has ….. that I have been telling him every once in a while over the past 15 or so years that I going to “buy it” …… and he said OK.

It belonged to his father, who I never knew, and who was a GP Doctor here in town many years ago. It is a Betz, model 2007 and I found out that it dates from around 1910 and is similar to models produced by Bausch & Lomb during the same period. As you can see from the picture the brass is quite tarnished after sitting around unused for so many years.

What I would like to know is an estimated value for it. Guesses are acceptable.

The pic is kind of dark but that scope looks like it has a lot of style!  I like it and the bell jar next to it also!

Very nice old doctors' model , cogar .

Looks more like a Gundlach Optical to me .... they did supply parts for Betz , though .

Do the optics have manufact. makers around/on the bezels ?

Do you know how tall this cool item is , when fully extended ?

Cool microscope Cogar! Now you need some kind of freaky-lookin' specimen to put in that bell jar!

Regularjoe, all three objectives are marked Betz and there is no mark on the condenser lens/diaphragm. When fully extended, that’s with the objectives raised to max height and the “draw tube” also, the height to the top of the eyepiece is appx. 16 inches. 

Here is a web pic of a 1910 Bausch & Lomb and which mine will hopefully look similar to iffen I get it shined up, ……. except the “draw tube” on mine is chromed. And I’ve been looking on the web and still haven’t found a value$ for it.

And no, no, Tales, that microscope goes back under that bell jar once it gets all spiffied up.

Below is a rare Gundlach with a base like yours (c.1900-ish , I think) .

As a suggestion , perhaps you could contact the folks at :

I am old, .... and slow, ..... and crippled up, ........ so it took me a few days of diligenty working to clean and polish it up a bit ....... and here following are the "after" pictures of my antiques Betz microscope which I thought you might like to see. (Even if the pictures are not the best, its tuff trying to photograph shiny brass.)

It actually needs an experts touch to really "make it shine" but its good enough for me or what whoever is "going to get" if someone talks me into selling it. Cheers
