Hi everyone, I've got a few tree trimming things today. My dad has been doing tree work for over forty years. He started out climbing for Davey Tree Service as a teenager in the sixties, which is (i would assume) when he acquired these items. He might have gotten them later (early seventies running his own business) but I know that he was given them by an old woman with some connection to Davey Tree.
First is an old pole pruner. My Dad told me he thought it was quite old, but if I wanted to fix where the handle had broken that I could have it. It works very well, and I've used it quite a bit. It's about nine feet long, and it works by way of a thin steel rod that pulls the blade down with a spring loaded lever. All the other pole pruners I've ever used operate with a rope that you pull on. I thought it might be as old as the 1920's. I wold love to know what anyone else thinks about it's age.
I also have eight old Davey Tree Service training manuals from 1925. There would be ten, but I'm missing two volumes. There is an old note in one of them that has the names of the two individuals who borrowed them, and never brought them back lol. My favorite is the one about tree trimming tools, such as an old Model T Ford spray truck. I don't know if these would have much value to anyone, but they seem to be pretty rare. What do you think?
