Old H.W. Longfellow Poem Book
« on: July 27, 2010, 04:32:46 pm »
so i was doing some mission work in asheville, nc this past week and a thrift store asked that a few members of our group (myself included) sort out some books that had been donated. There was a bin that jumped at me immediately and took up most of my attention because the youngest one in there was from the 1920's. Anyway, I bought one of the oldest books in the bin and i can't find any info about it it seems to be first edition volume two of a series called "Longfellow's Poem's".

Pics are here:

woops my bad i should have previewed them first i reuploaded using photobucket

Nice condition. It's two bad you don't have the other volume. There were several different printings of this particular collection of Longfellows poems. I think this one is the 1853 edition. As far as value I wouldn't put it much over five dollars. Lots of Longfellow out there, but it's still a nice sturdy book of over one hundred fifty years old that you should enjoy having around.

It's hard to tell what old books will be worth $$ and what ones won't without lots of experience on the subject. At least you didn't overpay for it. I once saw a very old and very valuable book from the dawn of printing in the late 1400's sell on ebay for just $380.00! I knew what it was and what it was worth (thousands), but I didn't have the money to bid on it. Now that was unfortunite LOL.
