If not Needlepoint then what?
« on: September 12, 2010, 06:23:21 pm »
Does anyone know the name of this type of art.  I do not think that it is needlepoint, but could be wrong.  Any ideas?

I would hazard a guess at embroidery. Appears to be machine done though.

To funny wayward. I'd heard of crewel embroidery, but didn't have a clue as to what the difference was.  Can you tell
I'm not exactly up on the feminine hobbies??   Though I did try knitting......once. :D

Hmmmm, Rosy Grier did needlepoint and he was not very feminine sapphire.  Crewel was the first thought that popped into my mind but I'm not in touch with my feminine side so I had to look it up.  From Wikipedia, "Crewel Embroidery, or Crewelwork, is a decorative form of surface embroidery using wool and a variety of different embroidery stitches to follow a design outline applied to the fabric."  When I enlarged the pics that lewmel posted, I could see the yarn that was used to make the design.  I assumed the yarn was wool.  The method looked like some of the examples of crewelwork on the web. :)
