I have a 1965 Revell Gran Tourismo racing set. I would like to know the history, and possibly value, of this set. Any help?? Thanks!

racing set is complete with all parts and is in excellent condition.

Hello Y'all! New to the antique industry...

I have come across a 1965 Revell Gran Tourismo racing set. It is complete with all parts and instruction book. The tracks and cars are in excellent condition.

I also have 3 additional slot cars of the same 1/32 scale. One is an unassembled Mercedes-Benz 300SL coupe. All parts and decals are together with instructions in original box.
Another is a Ferrari GP, which is assembled and in perfect condition.

I am hoping someone can give me some additional history and information on these items. I might also be interested in the current value. I have been considering keeping it for my son, since I have no idea what its worth.

Any help is sincerely appreciated! Thank you!

norcalsurfgal , welcome this should be posted in the Antique Questions Forum not the new members forum I'm afraid it will be missed by all the  folks who respond. also can you post photos. Revell was a manufacturer of a broad range of plastic and die-cast models of cars, aircraft, military vehicles and ships. The company now resides in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. ebay sets run $45.00 - $70.00

Wendy, I believe norcalsurfgal is talking about a slot car set rather than the models Revell marketed.  Some slot cars are worth far more than a normal model car kit.  The 300SL (Gullwing?) I think would fall into that category.  As a regular full size auto, that is one rare car (Gullwing) and worth many $$$.  As an unassembled slot car, I would think that would bring a premium also. Slot car sets and cars are valued as to condition.  Uncrashed cars are worth more than modified, user run cars.  Useable track is desirable.  Unassembled cars are collected with some scarce models bringing good prices.  I would Google the specific brand of car, model, and condition to see what the current worth is.

If you are keeping this for your son, make sure he would appreciate it rather than just run cars around the track to crash them.  The way to devalue what you have in a hurry is to assemble unassembled cars and race them.  Already assembled cars can be carefully run around the track a few times.  If you have cars that have been altered or crashed but are still operable, those are the ones to let your son race around the track.

I can remember in the 70's the popularity of slot cars.  It was a real treat and was so much fun to go to the slot car track/s in town and race my brother's car.  Bet he still has his....never thought about these again until this post!  Ah....the memories!

Not only are the cars collectible...but the tracks as well!
