Silver and glass grapes salt and pepper shaker
« on: October 19, 2010, 06:16:51 pm »
Picked this up at an antique shop today, and was wondering if anyone could give me any info as far as value/origin goes.  There is a small oval sticker on the bottom that says "JAPAN", but that is the only marking on it. Thank you!

Pretty Salt and Pepper shaker.  Is it pewter, kind of has the slight gray look of pewter.  This will be really hard to find the origin on it.  First with just japan as a marking says this was made for import, this could any of the hundreds possible.  It is for sure considered post 40's, and I would gamble on it being post 70's, so basically the value would be based on it looks and finding the right shaker collector, and there are lots of them, but so is the amount of unique shakers out there.  I would place the value on around $20.00 right time and right buyer.  Personnally I will only pay $5.00 for a shaker, on a really unique and hope to get $20.00.  Anyway you have a unique shakers and thanks for sharing.

One Thing to keep in mind that during the 60's and 70's Grapes came back into fav.  I remember lots of Family and friends with Hanging lamps made with that kind of purple grapes.  Is the Metal Pewter?

Have seen many of these from the mid 1900's.

Unless they have markings.....I really can't help you out!

The "Japan" sticker would mean post 1920's, earlier Japanese export pieces would be labeled "Nippon".

One can find a lot of them that are made of "pot metal", but anyway:
