was just wondering if anyone has seen a (doll?) like this before, and if it is indeed vintage/antique.

I think she is Japanese Kokeshi Doll. There is an interesting article here involving a similar doll (thos size may be larger): http://tokaido.wordpress.com/2008/01/29/large-kokeshi-japanese-wooden-doll-artist-signed-ningyo/

The similar doll was said to be less than 40 yo so depending on a person's definition of vintage....

thank you for the link. this one is smaller( just under 8 inches )but very similar. Also signed on base in Japanese characters.....hope this one is not haunted....
