Japanese Doll......translation anyone?

as I do not read japanese or chinese( not even sure what language it is written ), I was hoping someone here could translate or point me towards a site that could help. Just wondering who made this doll and perhaps when. thnx for looking.

I saw on one of the antique shows on TV , I believe it was on Antiques Roadshow, one that was similar to yours. Some are quite old but not worth a great deal. I think they have been made for years as tourist items in some part of Japan. If I remember correctly the dolls were made for different types of luck. Each is slightly different according to what type of luck you wished for. The inscription on the bottom could be the maker or it may be what the doll is for. Could say wealth, or love or whatever the person needed. Thats about all I remember.

This is interesting. It looks like you have a Kokeshi doll. There are differing opinions as to how they were used. There is one suggestion that they are representative of babies killed after birth!

Totally amazing.....but also a bit haunting, even if the theory mentioned is not accurate..........i f you look closely you can see some examples very similar!
