Did I lose out on a gem?
« on: March 11, 2011, 03:25:13 am »

Last week I had been watching this piece from the moment it appeared on ebay, and puta nominal bid on it to keep an eye on it. I just could not make up my mind whether it was genuine in any way, although a very attractive piece. I'm not a glass person (although my wife would have probably bagged it), and my only intention was to buy and maybe sell on. I decided how much I was prepared to risk on an item that could be worth a few £ or possibly several hundreds of £.
In the last few seconds bidding raced past by maximum bid, of c $160, but it only fetched c$200. Looking at the list of bidders, there didn't seem to be any serious collectors there, despite thefact that it was listed as Faberge. Despite doing as much research as I could I could only assume that it might have been a Theo Faberge egg, but the label had me wondering.

Did I miss out on a gem, or did I save $160? That is the question  ;D ;D

I would say you saved yourself $$ mario  ;)   I remember coming across these when I was picking up eggs for myself.

I would tend to agree with sapphire although the link shows Faberge style eggs. The one you lost has a Faberge sticker? which may or may not mean it is a real Faberge egg. Without a personal hands on examination you can never be sure of the quality through photos only. I think you saved some money on not buying a real egg. Remember, cash in the hand is worth two eggs in the bush.  ;D

Mario - As an aside.... I've been meaning to ask...  Did you get the perfume bottle from a month or so back.  It was lovely  :)

You win some, you lose some ... It's easy to tell what you've won, when it arrives, but it is so hard to tell what exactly you've lost,

But I'm with you all here, I think that I gambled the right amount. And what would we do without your words of wisdom, Wayward?  ;D

Hi Oceans ... re the perfume bottle, I missed it as we were away when the auction closed. Had planned to be back in plenty of time, but everything conspired against us. As I recall it went for a little bit more than I'd planned to bid up to.

Just from eyeballing the images , I'd say it was better to be the chicken , rather than the egg , on that deal , mariok54 !
