Maker of miniature portrait plate
« on: June 06, 2011, 02:51:37 pm »
This is a miniature portrait of a young boy hand painted on a plate shaped like a shell.  I can't make out the mark ow made it.  If you can identify the mark and can put an estimated value on the item, please do so.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Looks like the Number 82 maybe?   Can you post pics of the front side of the plate.

Here is the front of the plate.  I cannot figure out how to attach another photo on the existing post.  This plate is in the shape of a shell, bytheway.

I think the marks impressed in the bottom are more of a clue as to who/what/where than the applied black numbers, whatever they might be. A clearer shot or shots of the bottom marks might be in order to help you.

Looks like a C over an H (or vice versa) inside a half sphere with rays around the upper sphere outline. All this over a large diamond mark. I can't really see the mark clearly but it does resemble Hornberg of Germany.

This looks more like an ashtray to me.

MMM,  Could be,  But I think it is a Spoon Plate.    Ash tray would be really hard on the paint job.   I think it is hand Painted and not transfer, kind of hard to tell.   Thrifty looking at it really close is it made of little dots?

Replying to the last two comments.  No, it does not appear to be painted of tiny dots. And, I tried to capture the mark in a better photo, however this is the best I could get.  Yes, there does appear to be a capital H with the rays of light above it and a diamond below.  Any idea of the value in it's condition?

Approximately 2 5/8 inches in diameter.
