Perhaps an old standing mirror?
« on: July 22, 2011, 09:30:24 am »
i have come across something that i can not find any information on. My best guess is this is a standing mirror, i believe it to be wrought iron, not the newer iron that was produced and called wrought iron.

The glass was broken, so the mirror would need to be replaced, but my internet research has come to an end.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

Any info is appreciated. Thanks

From the second picture, it looks to be a newer item that has been aged to look old. But it's really hard to tell from the pics, I could be wrong. It's really cool either way, never seen one like that. We'll see what others have to say. Welcome, by the way! :)

Looks newer to me too with the copper antiqued finish. Old wrought iron has a grain similar to wood. New wrought iron is actually mild steel that is worked by hand. I think you have the new 'wrought' iron.

i appreciate the info and thanks.

I picked it up in a storage unit auction, and nothing else in the unit was antique in any way, so it would have been the only piece with any age if it was in fact old.

What i found odd was it has no markings on it at all....nothing , not even a made in...... mark.

i have looked at thousands of standing mirrors online, and i can not find anything that matches up even close to it, i agree with the unique piece.

One note that may help. it unscrews in the middle and turns into two pieces, for storage or tansport.

The joint is made to look like an older style, but it actually connects with a newer looking screw and washer inside the old design, so i definitely think it;s aged to look older then it is.

Thanks

I think the "Made in China" sticker fell off. Many pieces of 'wrought' iron now come from China.
