Victorian green glass bud vase
« on: August 04, 2011, 12:02:09 pm »
Hi. I'm a brand new member. My wife and I are yard sale junkies lol. We've had this vase for a while and we can't find another one like anywhere. I'm hoping that someone on here may be able to help with value of it. It says it's Seyei victorian glass with gold trim and hand painted flowers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thankyou.

Did someone do some one-stroke painting on the vase or are those flowers/petals original? I see the name on the base, is that a sticker or what? I am also wondering if that raised gold decoration is original.

Hmmm, it seems the decorations are all original. Here is a pair of red ones at a seized property government auction http://www.seizedpropertyauctions.com/Auction/PrintAuction/105734

There are other examples of decanters w glasses, etc. on the web.

Here is a compote for $19.99 BIN price http://cgi.ebay.com/VICTORIAN-GLASS-EMERALD-GREEN-HAND-PAINTED-COMPOTE-/250680401398

Taking all that into consideration, I would guess the value of a single bud vase at $10 or less.

Yes the label is a sticker. As far as the originality of the painting on it I have no idea.

I think it is original !! I have seen similar vases that are imports. The sticker says that it is Victorian Glass and I think it is just done in Victorian style.  I think its fairly modern. I used to do a lot of one stroke !!

I have seen lots of this style, usually they are considered as Bohemian Glass, and comes in like a decanter set.   Would sure not consider this Victorian at all, style or glass, which is a bit confusing to me.  Also Seyei, is a China maker, haven't seen anything Glass by them.  All in all this has me a bit confused, if it did not have a label, I would call this handpainted Bohemian Glass.

Not sure but I think the ones I saw that were similar were Italian imports !! However don`t hold me to that !!  Could have been from somewhere else !! Painting style looks very modern !!

Once again thanx for the info. After reading all the comments I would think $20 would be a fair price to ask. Let me know if you think I'm off. Thanx

$20.00 seems a fair price to someone who is looking for this bud vase to add to a collection.  I think you may be a bit high if selling on Ebay, but in a brick and morter shop that would be a good price.  These are not rare, but I'm sure it would have a good collector base overall.  I'm still fighting the word "Victorian Glass"  Does not look Vicorian in age or style.  However it is still a wonder raised paint job, and Forest Green Color.  Thanks for posting a really nice item.

Thanx for the evaluation. Of coarse ebay is always hit and miss. I think the important thing is to not get greedy and ask the world for the item and you might have a chance to sell. Make a little and move on to the next. My wife picked it for .50 cents.

At $20 I do not think the market or demand is there. I am of the understanding it will be started at $20 on ebay.
