Oriental ladels or what?
« on: September 10, 2011, 03:34:29 pm »

I am not looking for value, just wanting to know what they are.

If you happen to know of any oriental source I can inquire with, feel free to forward.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply.

Kind regards
John

Welcome John.

Will you please describe each piece as best you can.  Any markings (that you can distinguish) EX Dragon doing.... and the composition of the handles and bowls.  Kind of hard to tell from your pics.
I'm from the South - but please don't mistake my Southern Manners/Accent/Charm as a weakness!

Uh yah! Dimension and description would help huh?  My bad!

I'll try and take some better pics.

The Brass one has
-"china" stamped on bottom.
-(Cup) 4 inch dia. top tapered down to a 2-1/4 inch dia bottom.  Back is 2 inch high, front is 2-3/8 inch high. The dragon design on the sides is just a wavy dragon mirrored on each side and some symbol on the end.  The background is just a wave pattern. 1/8 in. thk.
-(Handle) 4 inch long w/ 3 inch decorative, copper handle with colored enamel Various flowers and leaves with oriental building and hanging lamp on top.
-(Handle stem) to keep it from tipping back is 5/8 in. long x 3/16 in. dia.

The Dark cast iron one has
-No stamped markings
-(Cup) is 5 inch dia. top down to a 3-5/8 bottom, 2-3/4 high back side, 2 inch high front.  The design is pattern work all around w/ 3x symbols of some type.  1/4 inch thick.
-(handle) 6 inch long w/ 2-1/2 inch wood handle w/ 5x peices of inlayed, decorative stones.  (1 missing) The end has a 1 inch, decorative cylinder stone with a wood, carved flower on the very end.

Again, I'll try and take some better pics.
Thank you for the replies.
Kind regards
John

Mmmm,,, looks like it !!  Just having China on the bottom rather than "Made in China" would date them before 1950 or so !!

I think a better term to look them up might be "Pan Iron" as shown here:

Yes these are definitely silk irons. I've seen lots of these and love 'em! You put coals in the bowl and the brass would disperse the heat and make it safe to iron delicate Asian silks. Google antique silk iron and you will see lots of different types of these.
