old ring case with beveled glass
« on: September 24, 2011, 08:58:14 am »
Hi folks, found this among some of Grandmas things and was wondering if anyone could give me an idea how old it is? The metal frame all appears to be brass,no makers mark, is it a keeper?? I was told beveled glass was kind of expensive stuff. thanks

If you search French Beveled Glass Ormolu Victorian Era Jewelry Box /Jewelry Casket you will find many pieces like your, looks to be original but in my opinion  needs a hands on inspection by an expert to be sure it is  Victorian Era. beautiful little piece these were used to give wedding rings during that era.  :)

I scoured it for a hallmark but found nothing. might be something beneath the cloth pad but its set in there and I dont wanna risk removing it.This is really cool, thanks for all help guys, and the bump is greatly appreciated, would have hated to put it away not knowing.. heres a few more pics   ;D

Should I take this into a jeweler to get it appraised or where should I go? The prices for originals very from $300- $3000, need to know if I need added insurance lol. Did anyone have any luck with a date? Victorian Era I think is from 1837-1901 but was wondering if anyone can zero it in a lil more specific then that. Thanks
