Bisque Porcelain Piano Dolls (German?)
« on: September 27, 2011, 08:18:43 pm »
I bought these darling statuettes not knowing what they were, but upon research I think they are bisque porcelain piano dolls, and possibly German?  If anyone knows any more info on them, I would appreciate it!  I'm trying to find out a possible maker or date, at least, if possible.  They are 9.25" long, approx. 5.25"H

Holy! OT, but did you see the price of the Conte&Boehme. I have some type of vase with a boy by them. Never been able to find the value.
Let's hope yours ends up being one GG.  :o

Wow those are some pretty nice Piano Babies Greenhorn.  I had a Napco one once that sold for about $20.00 if I remember right, was not even close to being a cool as yours are, great detail and appears to be quality made.   As for being Bisque, they look like that, Bisque is just basically unglazed porcelain.  Once again really nice items.

Thanks, greenacres!  Helps me in my research!  You're such a sweetheart  :-*

snowflake, I wish!  Probably not, though...mine don't look as intricately detailed or as delicately painted as that piece, if that one is any indication.  Still, though, they're one of the cutest things in my house right now, I think!  :)

Thanks, ironlord!  I couldn't wait to share these little dolls  ;D

here's another link to some piano dolls. Although I wasn't able to find the exact ones you have there are some that are similar to yours...

Thanks!  I found one that looks to be the same maker as mine, has the exact same gown and paint details:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290512975218

That one says its made in Germany, although most of them on eBay do even if unmarked and seller doesn't know for sure.  Apparently there is like a science to determining the German dolls from mid-century Japanese repros...I'm going to go over the details of mine better and check if they have toenails and raised paint on the face, etc.  http://forums.ebay.com/thread.jspa?rw=true&threadID=520278490&print=true&anticache=1317183216595
