Haas & Czjzek
« on: October 05, 2011, 12:04:31 pm »
I have this Haas & Czjzek silver overlay deer I can't find much about. This is an item I would like to sell but I don't know what would be a good price. I have seen only a few other animals made by H&C that seemed to be from around the same time. The one was estimated at being from around 1931 and was repaired. I did manage to find a deer made by Royal Dux that seemed to be made from the same mold but was not as finely detailed as my Haas & Czjzek deer. Value? Thanks Kevin.

Looks like yours has a newer mark 1945-1992 http://www.collectorscircle.com/bohemian/porcelain/marks_table1.html#haas

I wasn't able to find any like yours though, either, so that may help you with price.

Thanks for the reply. I saw that website too and I thought the same thing 1945 to 1992 but on the Haas & Czjzek site it says its from 1918 to 1945. http://haasczjzek.cz/vyvoj_znacky.html Wish the H&C site was in english.

You should be able to translate it on your computer !!  I have been to several sites that allow that !!

Ah, okay...I could be wrong on that, then.  It's a very cute figurine, I must say.

Here's some prices their figurines have sold for online in the past:

This 1925 duck or goose bird figurine was estimated at 120-140 Euros ($160-187) and sold for 90 Euros in 2007.  90 Euros today would be about $120 without accounting for any inflation.

This 1930 woman & peacock (?) bird was estimated at 220-290 Euros ($293-386) in 2007 and sold for 200 Euros (about $267).

I've found that site liveauctioneers to often sell under value though.

So the slightly newer one was worth more, maybe the desirability of the scene or figure has more to do with the price than the age, which would be good for you since the date range on yours is wide.  I would suggest this is one you may want to take to either a professional appraiser or an antique shop...or see if there is a Czech neighborhood nearby to where you live and try to find an antique shop there, maybe they will know more about the particular markings on your piece.  Or, if you want to put it in an onine auction, set a reserve you're comfortable with getting for it, so that it doesn't by fluke end up selling way under value.

Thanks very much for the info you have found. I thought about taking it to be professionally appraised but not really sure what I would be charged. Would they really have a good idea? Just guess? Or would they just search the internet for a good forum like this? Plus I have so many antiques I'm not really sure what I should take to get appraised or how I would get them all there.

I almost listed it on ebay but I have had some bad experiences selling something on there before. Here is a Royal Dux deer I was telling you about looks like it came from the same mold but is poor quality compared to mine. Is finding almost the same thing made by another company a common thing? http://www.ebay.com/itm/royal-dux-deer-figurine-Signed-white-gold-/170646266125?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27bb4f610d
