Help! I have a very old ashtray
« on: October 26, 2011, 11:07:25 am »
Hello
I've never done so much research on one item before! I have a glass ashtray which is 4"x4" by 2 inch deep with a picture of William Butler of William butler brewery. I've been to many places and done a lot of research on line but can't find any information about it which gives me an indication not many were made.
Please would someone be able to help me find out a little more about this ashtray or where I can approach a dealer who would be interested in it.  I've attached a photo which I hope will help.
Many Thanks
Alan

I found another reference to your ashtray, but it's said to be a Mr. Birch (William or John). Going to follow this name up.  ;)

About 2/3 of the way down the page

This link mentions a glassworks place in the area.

"This pub was located close to Chance's Glassworks"

Not having much luck so far but came across this UK collector's site. They feature a page on ashtrays (yours isn't there) but, from their Home Page.....

"We are also happy to offer advice on individual valuations, history, or collections - within our limited knowledge."

One of Butlers ashtrays (same pic, diff. shape) sold on ebay for 6.50 pounds. No other info on it in the description though.
