? Glass Dispenser?
« on: November 27, 2011, 11:49:26 am »
Hi all, I am new here and decided to join after my research yielded nothing. Anyways, I think this is some kind of dispenser. It has a handle and a screw on lid. The lid has a sliding level that pulls a metal piece over a hole to open and close it. It's about 12" and 8 across. I am not 100% on the measurements, I just eyeballed it.
Thanks for any help.
Ken

There is no bottom, it is open. May of had a lid at one time. There are no markings on it that I can see. The handle is riveted to the band that goes around it. It is steel. Any other questions or Info you need, please let me know. this thing has me stumped.

Just curious but where are you located ?? The slide is similar to those on syrup pitchers from the 30`s and on !! Since it is open at the bottom we can assume that it was held with the open end up and the slide was moved to allow something to pour out !! First thought was a wierd little cream separator and since cream stays on top the whey could be let out the opening !! But it really doesn`t seem big enough for that !! And it would need a stand of some sort !!

It's either a coffee or sugar jar / dispenser from a "Hoosier" type kitchen cabinet. The "handle" fitted in a bracket so the jar could be swung out when used. The cover was usually just plain tin with a rolled edge.
